McHenry VFW
McHenry, Illinois
Greetings from VFW Post 4600
Commander Ronnie Reber!

As you walk through the front door of our post you
will notice in our small room our remembrance table,
remembering those who are not among us, along
with a firm handshake you will learn very quickly
what we are all about.

Many have come before you as this Post was
founded in 1946.  As I take you through a 1 year
recap of events I remind you that at anytime any of
these events could easily find you helping out.  First
off the 1st Monday of each month we have our post
meeting at 7:30 sharp, we also have a nice post
dinner @ 6:30 sharp which is no charge.  We also
have on the 2nd Tuesday of each month our
Honored Degree of the VFW the Military Order of the
Cooties meeting.  An odd name, yes, but you will
need to prove yourself if you wish to be invited into
this group.

Memorial Day is our first major event for the post and it is celebrated with the other
Combined Veterans of McHenry.  Next up is Flag Day, June 14th where we retire our
worn and tattered flags in a very respectful ceremony. Next on our calendar is our 4th of
July Picnic where we sit down and enjoy some traditional hot dogs and hamburgers
(maybe some corn on the cob) if we’re lucky.  Still hungry look out here comes our VFW
steak fry in August where you cook your own steak over charcoal.  Taking a break for
now as we head to November 11th Veterans Day, which is also celebrated with the
Combined Veterans of McHenry.

Hope your taste buds and muscle are intact as the Combined Veterans of McHenry go
up for Thanksgiving Day where since the middle of August we will have been planning
what perhaps is the greatest event all year.  Starting a 6:00am we start preparing a
turkey dinner complete with all the fixins.  In the past years we have served anywhere
from 120 to 300 sailors from Great Lakes Naval Station, this is one day you will never
forget.  Then last but not least is our Christmas dinner at our December post meeting.

The above has not included our daily and weekly operations that take place. We serve
lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday with daily specials.  So there you have it all in
nut shell, are you up to the task to start serving at this All American VFW Post, the
highest honored given to any VFW Post?  Welcome Comrade as you sign the dotted line
you will never regret walking through OUR POST HOME DOOR.
